B.Y.O.E.N. “Bring Your Own Ethnographic Needle” is a hypodermic plunge into the flesh prisons and surveilled borderlands that populate Victor Barragán’s ultra-contemporary body of work.
Somewhere between doxxed and anonymous, the alleged fashion brand becomes a silhouette for projection and dissection, while a leaked audio transcript fills the dead air with Victor’s own reflections.
Moving across a subspace of virtual meat lockers, and lit by the fluorescence of institutional decay, B.Y.O.E.N. is a genre in atmosphere but not content.
Three full-length investigations unfold a cross-section of different conceptual terrains: from the cursed dimension of 虚圏ウェコムンド, to the white cube of Instagram and first person shooter maps of the US military/pharmacology pipeline.
B.Y.O.E.N. also includes official JPEGs from Victor Barragán’s Youth Is the Answer exhibition at Carlye Packer in 2025, with on-site field recordings by Hendrik Schneider.
Contents:
MADAME YOUTH by Fiorella De Caro. Childbirth, puppets; class is in session. BARRAGÁN claims Youth Is The Answer, Madame Du Coudray never second guessed it.
SELF-CANCELLATION by Sam Harding. A lazy google search for the word Barragán becomes an unravelling spiral of language, symbols, fabric and flesh into an infinite desert of data. All Hail Baraggan, hollow king.
ARGOT by Manga Ngcobo. Victor Barragán LARPs as a fashion designer in New York, just as Rayner Banham once did as a driver in Los Angeles, to uncover mutating strains of fringe identity across various enclaves of the American empire.
BODY ON THE LINE by Fin Cousins. The faces, fluids and flags of Victor Barragán are read as a counter-liturgy to the trance-states of modern media. An anti-propaganda machine built to reverse the terms of domination it borrows from.
WARDS ;-4-,8- by Ruby Bailey. You are never late for your appointment. The clock measures stillness. The snake is blind. There are chemicals here, and no more metaphors.
GRAPHIC DESIGN by Pauline Hill.

TWIST TARGET Vol. 1 is the first instalment in a series of publications— each trained on the dataset of a single artist or entity. Presenting original dialogues, word-processed experiments, visual episodes and unlocked source material, it is an attempt to generate new conceptions, perceptions and sensations hacked out of raw data.
Contemporary culture runs on pareidolia: the impulse to find patterns, connect dots and map out signals. TWIST TARGET resists that broad cartography. By inhabiting one practice at a time, it orients itself through singular critique, close-reading, and character examination.
All modes of research are encouraged.

A forensic study of Victor Barragán’s frenetic, outrageous, ultra-contemporary body of work. Equal parts graphic and comprehensive, the issue combines written investigations, interviews and visual episodes, in a ventriloquised dialogue with BARRAGÁN’s practice and its exploration of fashion, identity and image-making in the digital era.
